Get My Car ("we", "us", "our") provides free tools and information to help you understand and estimate the costs of buying and owning a car in South Africa. This page explains what information this website collects, how it's used, and your rights under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Get My Car is an information service, not a credit provider. We don't process credit applications, store financial documents, or connect you to a lender through this website. Nothing on this site constitutes an offer of credit.
The vehicle cost calculator on our Home page runs entirely in your own browser. The figures you enter (purchase price, deposit, term, interest rate, and so on) are saved only to your own device, using your browser's local storage, so your inputs are still there if you come back later. This information is never sent to Get My Car or to any third party — it stays on your device unless you clear your browser's data.
If you use the "Share This Calculation" or "Share via WhatsApp" features, your calculator inputs are encoded into a link or a message that you choose to send. We don't store a copy of what you share — the link or message only exists between you and whoever you send it to.
Our WhatsApp contact form asks for your name and a message. This information is not submitted to or stored on any Get My Car server. Instead, it's used to prefill a WhatsApp message, which opens directly in WhatsApp for you to review and send. Once sent, that conversation is between you and Get My Car, and is subject to WhatsApp's own privacy practices (operated by Meta).
The "Chat with us" assistant on this site answers common questions using a fixed set of responses. It runs in your browser and does not transmit what you type to any server or third party.
Some parts of this site rely on or link to services we don't control, each with their own privacy practices:
We use Google Analytics to help us understand how people use this site — for example, which pages are visited, roughly how long for, and what device or browser was used. This helps us improve the site over time.
Google Analytics works by placing small cookies in your browser and collecting information such as your IP address, general location (typically city-level, not your exact address), device and browser type, and the pages you visit on our site. This information is processed by Google, which may store and process it on servers outside South Africa, including in the United States. By using this site, you consent to this transfer, which is necessary for us to understand and improve the service we provide.
We don't use Google Analytics to identify you personally, and we don't combine it with any other information you might give us directly (such as via our WhatsApp form).
If you'd prefer not to be tracked by Google Analytics, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or use your browser's private/incognito mode or a content/tracker blocker. You can read more in Google's Privacy Policy.
Google Analytics (described above) sets a small number of cookies in your browser to distinguish visitors and sessions. Beyond that, we don't use tracking cookies of our own. This site also uses your browser's local storage to remember your dark/light mode preference and your saved calculator inputs — both stay on your own device and are not sent to us or to Google.
Since we hold very little personal information directly — mainly what you choose to share with us via WhatsApp, plus the general usage data described above from Google Analytics — there's generally very little stored with us for you to request, correct, or delete. If you have any question about how your information is handled, or a concern about your privacy, please get in touch and we'll be happy to help.
This site is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
We may update this page from time to time as the site changes. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
